Northern Michigan attracts people all over the world with its wonderful sights and sounds. Often, this includes celebrities. Livnfresh has listed down some of the stars who have spent significant time in Northern MI: these are the most famous celebrities who are known to live in or visit Northern Michigan.
Traverse City is one of the most popular destinations because not only is it home to many celebrities, but it is also a favorite among those who want to embrace the calmness of the Lakeshore and the beauty of inland rolling hills and forests. Celebrity chef Mario Batali spends his summers here.
Filmmaker Michael Moore, rocker Kid Rock, and even pop superstar Madonna all hang out here and are part of the local community. Madonna’s father owns a local winery, Ciccone Vineyard & Winery in Suttons Bay. Meanwhile, Moore curates the State and the Bijou movie theatres, which he also restored. Batali shops at the local farmers market and does book-signings at Horizon books (RIP Horizon Books).
But that’s not all, Northern Michigan is home to many other celebrities.
Tim Allen
Home Improvement actor Tim Allen was born in Denver, Colorado but moved to Michigan with his family at a young age. In fact, his voice is a familiar sound in the Pure Michigan ads for many Michiganders.
Allen attended Central Michigan University before transferring to Western Michigan University in 1974.
Rumors say that the actor owns a large piece of land in Leelanau County near Northport, but there isn’t a lot of information about it.
Allen played Tim “The Toolman” Taylor on the ABC sitcom Home Improvement from 1991 to 1999. He also starred in other films like For Richer or Poorer, Galaxy Quest, Big Trouble, Christmas with the Kranks, The Shaggy Dog, Wild Hogs, Redbelt, and Crazy on the Outside.
Kid Rock
Singer-songwriter Kid Rock is a true Michigan native. The rapper, musician, record producer, and actor reportedly own a riverfront home in Detroit and a mansion on Lake Fenton in southern Michigan. Kid Rock’s musical style has always alternated between rock, hip hop, and country, but this multi-instrumentalist has always shown his love for Michigan.
Eminem
Marshall Bruce Mathers III, known professionally as Eminem is a rapper, songwriter, record producer, record executive and actor. In fact, he is considered one of the most successful musical artists of the 21st century.
But before all this glitz and glamour, Eminem grew up shuttling between Michigan and Missouri with his family, rarely staying in one house for more than a year or two.
Carter Oosterhouse
Carter Oosterhouse is a TV personality and model who was born in Traverse City, Michigan. Oosterhouse first gained national fame playing the role of a carpenter on the TLC series Trading Spaces. He has also hosted other home improvement and how-to television shows.
Showing his love for his hometown, Oosterhouse married actress Amy Smart on September 10, 2011, in Traverse City, Michigan.
